Helen Jenkins BA (Hons) Fine Art
Professional info
I’m Helen, the one usually found behind the sewing machine with a cup of tea and surrounded by fabric. A few things about me- I like comfy jumpers, tea and biscuits, Friends, staying in and organising.
Sewing is my second love behind my family. I have been sewing since I graduated university but have always been creative. At school my favourite subjects were Art and Graphics, I then attended college on an Art Foundation course before heading off to university studying Fine Art. Sewing has always been in the family, so when my Mum asked if I would like to go on a one day free-motion machine embroidery course with her, I said ‘yeah, I’ll give it a go!’...
...And the love affair began.
I now work from my studio in my parents garden, with the added perk of mum making my lunch for me, designing and crafting everything myself.
I love the versatility free-motion embroidery gives me to make my ideas into reality. Having concentrated on drawing throughout my degree, it felt a natural progression to then draw using my sewing machine. Anyone can do it, it just takes practice. Lower the feed dogs on your machine and away you go.
Each of my products is designed with style and practicality in mind. I create statement pieces with emotion and flair to complement people’s personalities. Combining traditional embroidery with modern, up-to-date designs to enhance office or home alike.
